Zahora Beach

Zahora Beach is one of the most spectacular gems on the Costa de la Luz. Located between Los Caños de Meca and El Palmar, this beach open to the Atlantic stands out for its immense size, fine golden sand and clean, crystal-clear water. At approximately 2,900 metres long, it is the kind of place where even in midsummer there is still room to spread out your towel without feeling crowded.

One of Zahora’s most striking features is its almost untouched natural landscape. Dune formations and coastal vegetation extend along the beach, giving the area considerable ecological value and forming part of the protected ecosystem around La Breña and Barbate Marshes Natural Park. This natural setting, together with the beach’s size and the open Atlantic horizon, creates the sense of freedom so characteristic of this stretch of the Cádiz coastline.

The beach is reached along several tracks leading off the main road. Most have paid public car parks, as is common during the high season. One of the best entrances is the Carril de la Aceitera, which leads to the area known as Cala Isabel, possibly one of the most beautiful and peaceful sections of the entire beach.

Zahora Beach can be divided into several areas, each with its own character and atmosphere:

• Trafalgar Lighthouse or Cala Isabel area. Probably the area’s most iconic section. It offers spectacular views of Trafalgar Lighthouse and some of the most impressive sunsets on the Cádiz coast. Several well-known beach bars and restaurants are also located here, including La Kalima and other venues directly on the sand.
• Quiet area. To the south lies a wilder section of the beach with practically no services or beach bars. It is perfect for anyone seeking nature, silence and space, whether for a walk along the shore, a peaceful swim or simply to enjoy the Atlantic scenery.
• Livelier area. At the northern end, closer to the main entrances, there are several villas, restaurants and beach bars. In summer this section has a more lively, sociable atmosphere, making it a good place to combine the beach with food and sunset music.

Besides swimming and sunbathing, Zahora is excellent for sunset walks, surfing or simply admiring the scenery. From here it is easy to explore the Trafalgar Tombolo, La Breña Natural Park and the nearby beaches of Los Caños de Meca and El Palmar, which together form one of the most special stretches of the entire Cádiz coast.
