La Breña Natural Park Viewpoint
One of the most spectacular spots in La Breña and Barbate Marshes Natural Park is the viewpoint offering an outstanding panorama of Los Caños de Meca, the Trafalgar Tombolo and its iconic lighthouse. From this elevated position, you can see the pine forest descending towards the Atlantic Ocean and the coastline opening out into one of the most beautiful views on the entire Costa de la Luz.
To reach it, start the route at the Los Majales del Sol Recreation Area, a well-equipped site with ample parking, rest areas and a popular restaurant with a terrace. The trail begins here, crossing the pine forest before reaching the viewpoint.
The route is very pleasant and accessible to almost everyone. Its approximate details are:

These characteristics make it an ideal family route. Children and adults alike can enjoy walking through the natural park’s dense pine forest, breathing fresh air and discovering one of the ecosystems most characteristic of this part of Cádiz.
One of the route’s most interesting landmarks appears near the end of the trail: Torre de Meca. This 17th-century watchtower formed part of the coastal defence system that protected the Cádiz shoreline. The towers were within sight of one another and were used to watch the coast and warn of possible attacks by Barbary pirates.
The tower stands almost 11 metres high and lies around 173 metres above sea level, which explains the impressive views from this part of the natural park.
The trail combines several landscapes typical of the area:
- La Breña Natural Park pine forest. A Mediterranean woodland that provides shade for much of the route.
- Natural viewpoints overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. From which you can see the beaches of Los Caños and Cape Trafalgar.
- The historic Torre de Meca area. A place that connects the park’s natural environment with the defensive history of the Cádiz coast.
After completing the route, one highly recommended option is to stop at the recreation area’s restaurant, Los Majales del Sol. Its terrace is perfect for a refreshing break after the walk and is especially well known for its gypsy-style rice and grilled meats, two dishes that are very popular with visitors.
