Hierbabuena Beach is, for many, one of the most special beaches around La Breña and Barbate Marshes Natural Park and probably one of the least known on the Cádiz coast. Despite lying very close to popular places such as Los Caños de Meca and the town of Barbate, this stretch of sand retains a peaceful, largely natural atmosphere.
Hierbabuena occupies a truly privileged setting, embraced by the pine forests and cliffs of La Breña Natural Park, just where the coast begins to rise before reaching the famous cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Almost one kilometre of fine golden sand long, Hierbabuena is a broad beach open to the ocean. Unlike other, more popular beaches nearby, it is often possible to find plenty of space even during the summer months, allowing visitors to enjoy the sea in peace. Many therefore consider it one of the last almost unspoilt beaches on this part of the Cádiz coast.
The landscape is one of its greatest attractions. From the sand, visitors can admire the pine-covered cliffs of the natural park as the Atlantic opens out towards the horizon. During the summer months, a very special beach bar is set up and makes the atmosphere even more enjoyable. Here you can eat local specialities, rice dishes and locally caught fish while admiring the seascape. There is also often live music at sunset, creating one of those magical moments so characteristic of the Cádiz coast.
One of the most practical ways to reach the beach is to park at Barbate Marina and walk from there to the sands. The walk offers views of the harbour surroundings and provides easy access to the beach.
